CW Confirms Supernatural Season 12 Is Happening

Posted by Arni Bergsson on

Supernatural season 12 confirmed along with full slate of CW series.

Supernatural season 12 will be happening on CW, in spite of rumors the horror thriller series was slated to die in a hospital where the nurses aren’t even hot. CW is so confident in its programing, the network renewed its entire slate of programming.

CW handed out renewal slips to Jane the Virgin (Season 3), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend(Season 2), The Flash (Season 3), iZombie (Season 3), Arrow (Season 5), DC's Legends of Tomorrow (Season 2), The 100 (Season 4), The Vampire Diaries(Season 8), The Originals (Season 4), Reign (Season 4) and, of course, The CW’s longest running scripted show, Supernatural, which will spook audiences into Season 12.

Supernatural was created by Eric Kripke. It premiered on The WB network on September 13, 2005. The show stars Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, two brothers who barely get to eat a home cooked meal because they are usually on the road chasing all manner of demons, ghosts and monsters.

CW head Mark Pedowitz must really love Supernatural. Normal people, they see a monster, and they run. but he has reportedly said on many occasions that the show will continue as long as Ackles and Padalecki want to do it and they don’t look they’ll be stopping any time soon.

“Both Jared and Jensen are having a blast, and as long as they have a blast, it’s a great thing,” Pedowitz told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in January. So great, for the CW, that the studio head thinks it might last longer than he does.

“If they can keep delivering stories, and the numbers keep holding, and the guys want to do it, we’re going to try to keep going,” Pedowitz said at the TCA press tour. “I can’t tell you if there will be a season 12 yet. I can’t tell you if there will be a season 15 yet. I can’t tell you if it won’t outlast my tenure at the CW. My guess is it will outlast me.”

Besides its current slate, The CW also greenlit several pilots, including Riverdale, Greg Berlanti’s take on the Archie comics; the supernatural period series Transylvania, and a series adaptation of Frequency.

  • Wonderful to hear. The writing for Supernatural is superb as are the actors. In my family the fan base runs from 86 years old to 14 years old. I have found fans by talking to people in restaurants, at school functions, even in the check-out lane at Walmart. love…
